First, I want to thank you for your supportive feedback and for subscribing to my newsletter. I am still setting everything up, so it feels great to have the support. Love it.
Here is todays post:
These last weeks I meet a lot of new people. It is great to share stories and hear all different life designs. It is one reason why I love to travel so much.
When we introduce ourselves and tell new friends that we have lived in Suriname for 3 years, they get curious. We talk about this small, unknown South American country. Freek explains about his work and we share our experience. After a while I get asked "...and what do YOU do?". I know this is the magical moment of the 'elevator pitch' telling the world confidently your Unique Selling Points and how special you are.
Due to the high importance of this moment, my answer is: "Ehmmm...well..."
and I stumble some words about education, new media and design. Most of the times, I end up talking about my studies or my earlier jobs. And I add: "Oh yeah, and I love to paint."
I'm asking myself why I find it so difficult to answer this simple question. Maybe, because I am 'in transition', in between jobs. Maybe, because I'm multi-interested. Maybe, because in the past I enjoyed education in a wide rage of topics. Maybe, because I'm more of a pluralist instead of a specialist.
The conversation would be easier if we would ask each other "what fulfills you with joy? What is your passion?"
Then my answer would be easy:
I make others happy with my art. My paintings celebrate love, beauty and nature. I love to create. I get inspired all the time and then I express myself with lots of colors and marks on the canvas.
In the last years, I started to put myself out there at art exhibitions. People actually seemed to like my paintings and feel the positive vibes. And I am glad that I can make someone happy with my art.
So I think, the next time, my answer will be:
What about you? Do you dare to tell what fulfills you with joy? What is your passion?
